Downfall is a thought-provoking and critically acclaimed German drama that delves into the final days of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime. Bruno Ganz plays the German dictator who, as the Russians close in towards Berlin, retreats to his bunker with his fiancée Eva Braun (Juliane Köhler), his private secretary Traudle Junge (Alexandra Maria Lara), and his propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels (Ulrich Matthes). His moods were all over the place, from furious rage to despondent defeat. He tried to pretend that what was happening wasn’t happening, while the others in the bunker dealt with the reality that they might be killed by the Russians any second. It’s heartbreaking to think of Goebbels killing his family before taking his own life, and then Hitler finally marries Eva Braun in a ceremony that, sadly, preceded their own suicide by hours.
